hobby lovebird, lovebirdsBe aware that the hobby costs money - but how much is largely up to you. If you're the type who gets into things big, you will need big money, particularly to start. It is expensive to have cages and aviaries built, especially if you choose top materials. Starting the hobby with a modest investment is quite possible, however, a breeding cage is enough to keep one or three (never two) pairs of lovebirds, especially the more common species. And you can upgrade facilities and lovebirds from the proceeds of your hobby if you breed young for trade or sale. I am convinced that a modest budget is enough to build up a fine stock, with adequate housing. The amount of money needed for feed is not so great, either, provided you keep your initial stock of lovebirds small. You do need to anticipate providing extra feed while your lovebirds are feeding their young.
