Picking Lovebird as a Pet
Most children love pets. Large parrots get their attention easily. Children are amused by their movements, they love the bright colors in the feathers, and they are fascinated if the lovebirds can talk.

Lovebirds are not as suited as pets for young children compared with budgies or large parrots. I've mentioned several times that lovebirds form strong pairs and should be kept as such, although this causes them to become more absorbed in each other and less interested in their environment or in their keepers, including children.

Older children, however, can enjoy lovebirds-let's say children aged 10 years and older. they will spend hours watching the interesting behavior of lovebirds in a cage or aviary. They will get even more out of it if they are guided and encouraged by experienced adults. Children must be told that lovebirds ordinarily can't be carried around the room on a shoulder or finger. They don't learn a repertory of tricks, and they don't imitate sounds. The children should learn to become interested in the lovebirds' fascinating behavior.
