About Lovebirds - Understanding Lovebirds
lovebird attackDon't let the name "lovebird" mislead you, because even among lovebirds there isn't always peace and harmony. They can attack one another viciously, especially when newcomers are introduced into a cage or aviary. If a newcomer interferes with the construction of a nest or the brooding of some egs, heavy blows can fall from a wing or bites from a beak until the intruder retreats. There are cases of pugnacious intruders that won't stop fighting, and events can degenerate into a real battle in which both lovebirds start shoving and hissing. If that doesn't impress, they commence a real beak fight, and believe this, this can be anything but gentle. It is fierce and unbridled. Small wounds may result, which naturally should be treated immediately. This is why it is inadvisable to place an extra male or female lovebirds in a group aviary.
